Ironman NZ 2012 Preparation (Day 15) 30/10/11

So 2 weeks ago I started this daily blog. Since then I have had ups and downs. Training is a lot more consistent, even if I haven't been as accurate as my training program has been set out. Having done triathlons for a few seasons now, I understand enough to get me to the start line in some kind of shape. I am happy enough within myself that at least i am doing some form of exercise each day. This is definitely helping my mood out.

Today I rode the hilly way to work. My hill climbing is woeful at best. I drag my big butt up those long draining slopes and conscious of my knee issues I've been having. There is 2 ways to improve the hill climbing. Weigh less, and ride them more. During my 8 seasons of triathlon, I have never really done real bike work as this is by far my best discipline. Time to actually invest some time to the bike.

Spent all day on my feet again at work and was supposed to run home but the girls insisted picking me up. Came home and cooked another bbq for them. So yum! Went for a quick nana nap before an evening run but 4 hours later, I guess the run took k back seat. Must have needed the rest.

Tomorrow begins more focused training and hitting each of my set sessions as best as I can. Weight has started to come down. Lost 2 1/2 kg in 2 weeks so just this rate I could get close to 90kg for the Auckland race which I'll be really happy with. That will give me at least a fair go at qualifying in the top 10. Need to be swimming at least 4 times each week from now on.

I feel excited about training properly again it has been far too long since I felt like this. I managed about a 3 week period like this last season, just after I got my replacement bike, but before that it was leading into the World Triathlon Champs in 2008 which were so Vancouver. Tonight I feel quite happy!

Ironman, here I come! 18 weeks to go!
