Ironman Prep Day 29 Nov 13

So race day at Scorching bay. 1km swim 30km bike up a stupid hill then 7.5km run. so more like a 3/4 distance.

Started off in cold, cold water, but nothing colder than Vancouver 2008....brrrrrr. I had an ok swim, didin't really push the pace, but did stay ahead of a good bunch but down on the front group. Then onto the bike..YEAH!!!.. after the run set yesterday, my legs took about 10km before they really started to feel normal, then in typical fashion, I lost 3 places going up the hill. Unfortunately Cam came off his bike on the way back down and did not look very good, but I have heard nothing sinister happened to him by the crash. Played a bit of cat and mouse with an athlete on the way back, then onto the run (groan). I had a cramp in my hamstring in transition, putting on my shoes, so good start. Once again my legs felt dead, and my toes had no feeling in them. So I chugged away at the run and got passed by far too many people. I am so sick of it now. This has to the season I actually put more effort into my running.... All in all, it was a good day out there, just what I needed for Auckland next week.

We had a few of our juniors doing some of the shorter races too, so that was great to see. I hope they don't do too much too soon. I couldn't hang around too long as I had to get to work after the race.

I think I was a bit selfish this morning as we got to the race. I know I upset Jane a bit and I need to be a lot more supportive. I need to be more organized too. I know I will be better in Auckland next week, I just hope I can run a bit better though. I know in my heart, I don't deserve to be a better runner with the lack of effort I have done with it.

So I didn't have many issues, I did feel calmer before the race than I used to, even though I didn't really get much pre race anxiety before. So back to Gman's program tomorrow, building for next Sunday.
